The Facebook Webshift: WikiLeaks and Shirely Sherrod
This is what we call the “Facebook Webshift.” (This post from July 2010). Just look at Bradley Manning the alleged WikiLeaks person and he could be just any “invincible” college undergrad- anywhere in the world with an average of 300+ Facebook friends- many whom he has not actually met or dealt with. Everyone trusts everyoneContinue reading “The Facebook Webshift: WikiLeaks and Shirely Sherrod”
Google,Scholar and B2B “Mirror mirror on the wall”
According to Pew Research 57% people have Googled themselves. On the CNN website an informal poll puts the number at over 80%. This is the Snow white “mirror mirror on the wall” effect in the digital age ! I was surprised that young people actually monitor their online reputations more closely than older people. TheContinue reading “Google,Scholar and B2B “Mirror mirror on the wall””

The concept of “face saving” and “shame” is critical to the eastern cultures, and yet unfathomable to the Westerner. Even to those Westerners who are the most open to Eastern cultures.Geert Hofstede compares Japanese and US cultures and yet the concept of shame is beyond the Hofstede dimensions.

Innovation and the Christmas spirit
Walk into any store, office or organization and you get that festive feeling these days. I wonder why many places are pretty foreboding for rest of the year, probably more so in the unhappy states. People simply hate work, generally, except during the holiday period – when things are distinctly more cheery. Lots of researchContinue reading “Innovation and the Christmas spirit”

Where are the jobs? Some tips and cheer for tough times
Some years ago, we had a recruitment consultant speaker at one of the associations I am involved with. A participant asked the question: What should someone who is 60+ and looking for work- do? The speaker was a seasoned older professional from New York and not used to mincing his words …. ” This did not happen to you suddenly” was his answer, which I thought was rather cruel at the time. But today when I think about it, we tend to neglect our own professional development , even when everything is going rather well.
