Why is execution so difficult and strategy formulation so easy? This is one of those perennial management and leadership questions. A question that legendary managers like Jack Welch emphasizes and thought leaders like Ram Charan have been writing about. Somehow execution is equated with “tactics” and numerous budding managers and leaders are constantly told about being more strategic- as if great strategy alone will get things done. Here are some thoughts on bridging the strategy to execution challenge:

WEF Davos : Capitalism and Democracy try to find balance through CSR
This year (2012) there seems to be a marked and discernible change in this gathering’s tone and tenor. Leaders of both Governments and Businesses seem to realize that becoming richer and richer is probably not enough. This realization as capitalism,democracy and affluence rises worldwide , 1 billion more global middle class by 2020 according to Muhtar Kent of Coca Cola ( see accompanying video). Some years ago, we had a recruitment consultant speaker at one of the associations I am involved with. A participant asked the question: What should someone who is 60+ and looking for work- do?
